JMBM partner Sheri Bonstelle recently published an article in the Daily Journal, “Replacing Homes, Replacing Intent: LA’s Housing Law Dilemma.” The article examines new state and Los Angeles laws that require one-to-one replacement of demolished housing units, including ADUs and SB9 projects, with affordable housing. These laws have strict conditions, significantly burdening homeowners and undermining the original intent of ADU laws to support multigenerational living. In the article, Bonstelle covers not only the requirements of the laws, but also various exemptions and other provisions that may apply to specific projects.
